Fire Dept Receive Portions Of $2.2 Million Federal Grant

08/10/2007 - In separate announcements Wednesday, Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn both announced that the Eastland Fire Department is the recipient of grant monies of $46,954 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants for Texas firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel to improve overall preparedness and first response capabilities.

These DHS fire grants will provide our brave firefighters and EMS responders with the additional resources they need to save lives, Senator Hutchison said. This funding will help these men and women better prepare for emergency response and recovery in our communities.

Cornyn's announcement reported the funding can be used for training and support operations and to purchase firefighter safety and rescue equipment.

This funding will help make sure first responders at the Eastland Volunteer Fire Department have the resources necessary to keep the surrounding community safe, Senator Cornyn said. We have a responsibility to support those working on the front lines every day to protect families, homes and property.

In a separate announcement Senator Hutchison also announced the Olden Volunteer Fire Department was the recipient of grant monies in the amount of $21,124 from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Hutchison noted that these grant monies are for firefighters in Texas to improve the first response capabilities of firefighters and Emergency Medical Service personnel.
