Eastland Memorial Library News
04/16/2008 - New things are opening up at the Eastland Centennial Memorial Library, and not just new books.
The Library has recently received three new computers through a grant to bring their computer total to 8 systems. These computers are for those who do not have a computer, to use free of charge. Each system is internet connected and ready for use. Time is limited to one hour per person and the staff report approximately 40 people use the computers each day the library is open.
One of the older computers has been moved to the front desk and is now being used to check books in and out and track the number of books going in and out at the Library. The system is showing an average of 600 books make the round trip through the library each month and this number grows during the summer months.
Wanda Skinner has been working diligently in the Genealogy Department, cleaning out old files and arranging the many volumns of personal scrapbooks, family history books, and research materials for better use by the public. You would be amazed at the number of family histories provided to the library through the years. More are being added daily and if you would like to donate family information to the library, contact Mrs. Skinner and she will be glad to assist you. All materials provided, continue to help those researches who stop through Eastland and visit the library as their first source of family hunting.
The Library is in need of some valuable assistance with their building. During the recent rains, and most other rains also, the front west facing windows leak pretty bad. If you or someone you know could help the library with fixing this problem, the ladies would be eternally grateful. We must do everything we can to protect our library , the books and all of the great resources housed at 210 S. Lamar Street.
Library hours are Monday through Friday noon to 5 p.m.
