Brooks Wins State Junior High Bull Riding Title
06/27/2008 - DENVER, June 2008 - Merrick Brooks, an 8th grade student at Eastland Middle School has earned a position on the Texas Wrangler Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, New Mexico from June 30 through July 5 to compete at the 4th Annual Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo in the Bull Riding competition.
Merrick earned his WJHFR privileges after competing against 34 other participants at the Texas State Junior High Rodeo held in Gonzales, Texas June 2 though 6.

Merrick out rode the others to take the 2008 Texas first place State Championship title. This placing qualified Merrick to continue to the "world" competition in Gallup.
This competition will feature more than 1,000 contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia and is the world's largest junior high rodeo.
In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, WJHFR contestants will also be vying for more than $50,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named the Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo National Champion. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top fifteen after two go-rounds of intense competition before advancing on to Saturday's final championship performance.
The Saturday championship performance will again be televised nationally as a part of the "X Rodeo High" telecast series on most RFD networks. Check your local listings for broadcast schedules or online at http://nhsrawranglerdivision.com.
Brooks is the son of Walker and Christi Brooks and this fall will be a freshman at Eastland High School.
Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, WJHFR contestants have the opportunity to enjoy nightly contestant dances, family-oriented activities sponsored by Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, and the chance to shop the WJHFR western tradeshow, as well as visit the historical attractions of New Mexico and nearby Arizona.
