Feed the Children Concert Featuring The Josh Abbott Band

07/01/2009 - Feed the Children Concert Featuring The Josh Abbott Band

The Eastland BackPack Committee is hosting a benefit concert to raise awareness and funding for this important issue. This program, which has been utilized in other cities such as Abilene, Gorman, and Clyde, is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when resources are not available, such as weekends and school holidays. Volunteers fill backpacks with nutritious food and drinks and deliver them to the school. The backpacks are child-friendly, easy to carry, and non-descript. The children take the food-filled backpacks home each Friday and return them to school the following Monday to be replenished for the next weekend. The goal for our program is to raise funds to support at least thirty children for the first year. In order to reach our goal, we will host a benefit concert to raise funds to turn this dream into a reality.

Texas Country Music Sensation: The Josh Abbott Band and special guest will perform in Eastland, Texas at Maverick Stadium on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. JAB was founded by fraternity brothers, Josh Abbott, Austin Davis, Drew Hurt, and Neel Huey in 2006. After playing mostly acoustic open mic night shows at The Blue Light, in Lubbock, Texas, Josh and Austin called on Drew and Neel to give the band a rhythm section. On their debut night, The Blue Light packed a full house and a sense of something special was present! After a year of picking up local shows and Greek parties, the band released a self-titled LP in 2007 featuring four tracks. Immediately, the band recorded a music video for "Buried Me" and entered it in the Music City Madness competition on CMT.com. After beating out over 600 other videos, the live concept video made the final cut! "Good Night For Dancing" has spent 11 weeks in the top 10 and 14 weeks in the top 15! "Good Night For Dancing" is now number 8 on the Texas Music Charts!!
